Private & Commercial Aeroplane Licence

Location

Townsville Airport. Townsville is Queensland's second largest city behind Brisbane and argueably, the capital of North Queensland. For more information on Townsville, visit the Townsville website.

From an aviation point of view Townsville Airport proves to be a great starting point for all lessons as our students are exposed to controlled and non-controlled airspaces early in their training. Some of your flying training will take you from the beaches in Queensland's North to the rolling mountainous areas of the Great Dividing Range through to the Western Queensland Outback.

TIF (Trial Introductory Flight)

We invite you to come in and take a TIF (Trial Introductory Flight) with us. This is a no obligation 30 minute initial training flight with one of our experienced instructors. The cost of this aeroplane flight experience is only:

30 minute TIF - $259 incl.GST (Gift Vouchers Available)

1 hour TIF - $468 incl.GST (Gift vouchers Available)

These flights are designed to give you an insight into the feel of an aeroplane first hand. The TIF's consist of an initial briefing in a casual classroom environment to discuss the very basics of an aeroplane and how they fly. Then it's out in the aeroplane to experience the feeling first hand! The time flown is also counted as time towards your licence, so come along and experience the thrill we will also be able to answer any questions you may and help you to your next stage of becoming a commercial pilot.

You can book your Trial Introductory Flight here or contact us if you have any enquiries.

Commercial Aeroplane Pilot Licence - CPL (A)

A commercial licence (CPL-A) allows you to fly an aeroplane for financial reward (i.e. to work as an aeroplane pilot).

A minimum of 150 hours flight training is required before you take a flight test. A Class 1 medical check certificate and a pass in 7 theory exams are also required.

Commercial Theory

Commercial theory consists of seven exams. You must achieve 70% in all exams to pass, Flight Rules and Air Law requires 80%

  1. Flight Rules and Air Law
  2. Aerodynamics
  3. Operations, Performance and Planning
  4. Meteorology
  5. Aircraft General Knowledge
  6. Navigation
  7. Human Factors
There are two main options for you when it comes to the theory aspect of your licence
  • If you are lucky enough to be the kind of person who is self-motivated, then self-study may suit you.
  • Alternatively you may be more suited to learning in a classroom situation. This option will allow you to be able to learn in a classroom type atmosphere. We offer in house theory tuition where you can study in a classroom environment and have all information needed on-site with the support of our experienced instructors for questions and white board briefings to help you understand.
Medical?

A Class 1 medical certificate is required. See the CASA website for a DAME (Designated Aviation Medical Examiner) near you.

Previous experience?

You will be glad to know that no previous flying experience is needed before you start to learn to fly an aeroplane.

A sense of adventure and being prepared to put in a little effort is all you require. Previous flying experience, in most cases, will allow for a reduction in the amount of flying hours you will need to complete toward your aeroplane pilots licence.
